The beginning of this month was packed with parades along Kalakaua Avenue. Whenever you see Kalakaua Avenue closed off like this, you should expect some kind of parade to come by.
As I was a bit curious, I decided to stay and witness first hand the Pride Parade that took place the first weekend of June since I was already in Waikiki.

ne would not suspect that this would be a parade that represents Gay Pride in Hawaii with the first members of the parade just riding their motorcycles in circles along the main street. However, the car that followed had all of the tell-tale signs that Gay Pride was being represented that morning especially with the rainbow flag being waved around.
On June 9, we had the famous and one of the biggest, the King Kamehameha Floral Parade through Waikiki with bands, floats, ladies on horseback that represented the different Hawaiian Islands, and of course, the royal court in 
the procession.
In conjunction with the King Kamehameha Celebrations, there also was the Pan Pacific Festivals, Matsuri in Hawaii, in its 28th year and they too had a parade through Waikiki on June 10. Various groups representing Japan, Hawaii, Korea and the US participated in the event.
